Job Summary:

The Paediatric Cardiac ICU Specialist Nurse provides critical care to children with complex congenital or acquired heart conditions requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. This role involves delivering high-quality nursing care, including advanced life support, to critically ill paediatric patients in the Cardiac ICU. The nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring comprehensive care for patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized nursing care to paediatric patients with cardiac conditions in the ICU, including post-operative care for cardiac surgeries.
• Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and overall condition, responding promptly to any changes.
• Administer medications, including inotropes and vasoactive drugs, as per protocols and physician orders.
• Operate and manage complex medical equipment, including ventilators, ECMO, and intra-aortic balloon pumps.
• Collaborate with paediatric cardiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Provide education and support to patients' families, helping them understand the child's condition, treatment plans, and prognosis.
• Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols and patient safety standards.
• Participate in ongoing education, training, and professional development related to paediatric cardiac care.
• Document patient care accurately and comprehensively in electronic medical records.
• Assist in emergency situations, including resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill patients.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license.
• BSN or GNM
• Certification in Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required.
• Experience in paediatric intensive care or cardiac ICU settings, with a focus on paediatric cardiac care, is highly desirable.
• Strong clinical skills in critical care, including advanced airway management and hemodynamic monitoring.
• Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations and make quick, informed decisions.
